Satellite licences awarded

11 Aug 2010

The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) of the United Arab Emirates has awarded Al Yah Advanced Satellite Comunications Services a satellite services licence, and Star Satellite Communications Company a satellite and broadcasting services licence, reports Gulf News. Al Yah’s concession is restricted to the provision of telecoms services to the government only, however Star’s licence allows the company to provide a wider range of services, including turn-key telecoms solutions, broadband services and broadcasting services. The concessions are valid for ten years and can be renewed with the approval of the TRA.
