Rostelecom raises Siberian network capacity to 267Gbps; backbone ring now complete

Russian telco Rostelecom has announced that it has raised the total capacity of its Siberian backbone network to 267Gbps. The operator has launched a 1,601km link connecting Biryusinsk and Chara with 120Gbps capacity. Further, Rostelecom has now expanded the capacity of its 2,500km link connecting Biryusinsk and Amazar to 147Gbps. Rostelecom has also confirmed that its new Siberian backbone ring – connecting Irkutsk, Khabarovsk, Ulan-Ude, Chita and other parts of the Siberian Federal District – is now complete. Rostelecom reported a net profit under Russian Accounting Standards (RAS) of RUB2.23 billion (USD74 million) for the first half of 2010.
