Vodafone Greece discards 5% of pre-paid users failing to register

6 Aug 2010

Vodafone Greece has announced that 95% of its pre-paid mobile customer base registered their personal details in the country’s recent compulsory registration scheme for all new and existing pay-as-you-go SIMs. The UK-backed cellco said the remaining unidentified pre-paid mobile phone numbers will be disconnected from its network. TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database says that Vodafone had 3.817 million pre-paid subscribers (69.5% of its overall base) at end-June 2010, indicating that it will disconnect somewhere in the region of 190,000 unregistered SIM cards. The cellco’s overall base was already in freefall, having decreased by over a million accounts since the beginning of the year.
