Swisscom reports first half figures

4 Aug 2010

Swisscom has announced a 0.5% increase in first half revenue for 2010 to CHF5.946 billion (USD5.72 billion). Net revenue of the group’s Italian subsidiary Fastweb rose by 1.7% year-on-year to CHF935 million in the six month period ended 30 June 2010. However, as a result of the provision of CHF102 million set aside in the first quarter of 2010 for VAT proceedings against Fastweb, earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) fell by 2.4% to CHF2.29 billion and net income dropped by 14.4% to CHF873 million.

Operationally, Swisscom ended June with 3.28 million fixed access lines in service, a 5.6% decrease in twelve months. Its number of unbundled lines jumped from just 82,000 at mid-2009 to 219,000 a year later, but this has led to a 33.3% decline in wholesale broadband lines to 260,000. Retail broadband access lines rose by 8.5% during the period, from 1.41 million to 1.53 million, while IPTV customers almost doubled from 165,000 to 317,000.
