Russian operator ER-Telecom has announced that its broadband subscriber base has reached 70,000 in Nizhniy Novgorod, an increase of 49,500 subscribers year-on-year. The operator plans to complete the construction of a universal telecommunications network in the city in September. ER-Telecom currently has 56% market penetration in Nizhniy Novgorod. The operator’s total broadband subscriber base now totals over one million. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, by the end of 2014 ER plans to control 20% of the national broadband and pay-TV markets; to achieve this the company is monitoring the markets of 90 cities with over 200,000 inhabitants with a view to expanding its networks in the near future.
