US telco AT&T has announced operating revenues of USD30.8 billion for the three months ended 30 June 2010. This figure represents a 0.6% rise from USD30.61 billion recorded in 2Q2009. Of this figure, AT&T’s wireless unit generated USD13.18 billion, fixed-line was responsible for USD7.21 billion and data traffic provided USD6.84 billion. AT&T’s net income for the period was USD4.02 billion, a rise of 25.8% year-on-year, from USD3.19 billion. Although AT&T’s fixed line services saw a 12.5% fall in revenue down from USD8.25 billion, figures for both wireless and data traffic increased. Wireless income rose 10.3% from USD11.96 billion, whilst data traffic increased 8.3% from USD6.32 billion.
In terms of wireless additions, AT&T gained 1.56 million new subscribers during 2Q10, up 14.2% on the 1.37 million added in 2Q09. Randall Stephenson, AT&T chairman and CEO commented: ‘We continue to see positive signs of growth in almost every customer segment of our business, especially wireless, which speaks to the quality of our execution and our leadership in the industry’s most powerful growth driver – mobile broadband. I am excited by the opportunities ahead’.
