Russian national operator Rostelecom has finished the construction of its fibre-optic backbone ring in Southern Russia. The ring, which connects Stavropol, Pyatigorsk, Elista and an assortment of other cities and towns in Southern Russia has raised the capacity of its backbone network to 40Gbps. The network was constructed using DWDM technology, along with SDH equipment at STN-64 level. It is thought that the ring will serve as the operator’s ‘reserve route’ in the region.
