Far EasTone selects Alcatel-Lucent to implement Carrier Ethernet network

21 Jul 2010

Alcatel-Lucent has announced that it has signed a four-year deal with Taiwan’s Far EasTone (FET) to converge a Carrier Ethernet infrastructure with the cellco’s existing metro network. The unified network will enable FET to introduce the next generation of mobile broadband services to its customers, whilst laying a foundation for the future introduction of Long Term Evolution (LTE) technology. Under the terms of the contract, Alcatel-Lucent will supply FET with a comprehensive Carrier Ethernet solution which includes its 7750 Service Router, 7705 Service Aggregation Router (SAR), 7210 Service Access Switch (SAS) and 5620 Service Aware Manager. Alcatel-Lucent will also provide surround services and assistance in project management, consultation and design, integration services, installation, deployment and maintenance. Jeffey Gee, CTO of Far EasTone commented: ‘While IP video, multimedia, and other high-bandwidth applications become increasingly popular, they require an all-IP multi-service infrastructure to satisfy the market’s growing needs for converged services with speed and bandwidth’.
