Orange Austria has selected Ericsson to upgrade its national mobile broadband network. Ericsson will upgrade the voice and data network over the next two years using its latest Multi Standard Radio (MSR) technology. Roland Nordgren, President of Ericsson Austria, said that by upgrading its network, ‘Orange was taking an important step towards next-generation mobile communications through to LTE’. In March, Orange and Ericsson rolled out 42Mbps services on the Wiener Neustadt Future Town network, making the cellco the first in Austria (and one of the first in Europe) to implement download speeds of 42Mbps over an HSPA network. Orange hopes to roll out the higher speeds across its entire network by year-end 2010.
