Kabel BW launches FTTH network in Neresheim-Elchingen

12 Jul 2010

German regional cable operator Kabel BW has announced the launch of services in Neresheim-Elchingen over the fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) network of energy company EnBW ODR. The cooperation agreement has enabled Kabel BW and ODR TSG, the wholly-owned telecoms arms of EnBW ODR, to provide broadband internet, fixed telephony and TV services to residents in the community, which is located in the federal state of Baden-Wuerttemberg. The agreement allows residents to choose between the two service providers; almost 60% of the town’s households have agreed to be connected to the network, around 50 of which have so far opted for Kabel BW’s telecoms services. Uwe Baermann, MD at Kabel BW, noted that the rollout of direct fibre connections will become the company’s standard deployment for new networks by 2011.
