Utility’s fibre to be used for national broadband network

7 Jul 2010

The government of Bahrain has issued a decision regarding its plans to establish a national broadband network (NBN). In a policy statement the government declared that excess capacity will be made available on the fibre-optic network of the Electricity & Water Authority (EWA), on an open access basis and at ‘fair and reasonable’ prices. Bahrain Internet Exchange (BIX) has been made responsible for overseeing all operational aspects of the planned NBN, in accordance with the kingdom’s National Economic Strategy 2009-2014.
