German cable operator Kabel BW has announced it has signed an agreement with Telefonica O2 Germany to secure wholesale capacity over the company’s mobile network. The deal will enable the cableco to offer its own wireless telephony services, with a particular focus on mobile data services. Kabel BW follows in the footsteps of rival cableco KDG, which added mobile telephony over the network of O2 to its portfolio of services in May 2009 as part of a quad-play package, while broadband provider HanseNet introduced wireless telephony through the launch of MVNO Alice Mobile in the third quarter of 2007, again through a network deal with O2. Kabel BW has not yet announced price plans for its new cellular offering.
