DoT delays MNP implementation deadline once again

2 Jul 2010

The Indian authorities have once again pushed back the deadline for the implementation of mobile number portability (MNP), according to Bloomberg. The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has announced that operators will now be required to offer the service by 31 October 2010, bumping the date back from 30 June. This is now the third time that the government has delayed the launch of MNP; the service was originally scheduled to be introduced by 31 December 2009. In a similar fashion to the previous delays, the DoT has claimed that its latest decision to push the deadline back comes on the back of reviews of the readiness of mobile operators to implement MNP.
