Clark Telecom and Subic Telecom, both of which are subsidiaries of Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company (PLDT), have completed a PHP70 million (USD1.52 million) upgrade to their networks using next generation technologies and fibre-optics. PLDT President and CEO Napoleon L Nazareno says the upgrade will allow the companies to keep pace with increasing demand for converged voice and data services from residential and business users. As a result of the upgrade Clark Telecom has 21 NGN nodes equipped with 6,336 ports, while SubicTel has 20 NGN nodes equipped with 5,688 ports. In addition, Clark Telecom is looking to complete a PHP25 million 42km fibre-optic network within its region of operation by September 2010, while Subic Telecom has already completed laying 36km of fibre at a cost of PHP19 million. The monies for Clark Telecom’s 42km fibre upgrade come on top of the PHP70 million already spent.
