iiNet to offer bonded ADSL

4 Jun 2010

Australian ISP iiNet has revealed that it is working on new technology which could offer double the speeds currently available via ADSL2+. The operator says that in trials ‘Bonded ADSL’ has produced downlink speeds of up to 40Mbps, and uplink speeds of up to 4.5Mbps, reports PC Authority. A spokesman for iiNet confirmed that service has been in development for some time and that the ‘back end was ready’ in ahead of an imminent launch. Customers need to have two phone lines – a master line and a slave – to use the service, which requires a special modem that merges the two lines into one stream so as to boost speed.
