Omani mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) Majan Telecom, which provides services under the brand Renna, has announced it has signed up over 130,000 customers in its first year of operations. The company became the Sultanate’s second MVNO when it launched services over the network of incumbent operator Omantel in May 2009. ‘From the onset, we pledged our responsibility to provide the nation with the best alternative communications services as the only 100% Omani owned mobile reseller,’ stated Ahmed bin Saif Al Rawahi, Renna board chairman, adding, ‘Today, one year later, we have achieved our set targets and look to raise the bar providing users with better, new and wide-ranging services to share the moment.’ Al Rawahi also said the company plans to expand further in the region, providing ‘fresh, innovative and differentiated services’ to a growing customer base. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, Majan Telecommunication was awarded a five-year Class II licence by the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) in July 2008 along with four other companies with the stipulation that they were to become MVNOs.
