Telstra doubles capacity on Sydney-Melbourne fibre link

17 May 2010

Australian fixed line incumbent Telstra has boosted its fibre-optic link between Sydney and Melbourne, doubling the capacity to 40Gbps, while revealing it plans to perform similar upgrades on other major inter-city routes this year, iTWire reports. It is understood that the upgrade work was carried out by Ericsson. Commenting on the development, Telstra COO Michael Rocca, claimed that traffic on the Sydney-Melbourne link was doubling every year, while Sam Saba, CEO of Ericsson Australian and New Zealand, said that the improvements made to the link would ‘enable Telstra to offer customers an improved service with minimal investment and changes to infrastructure.’
