Cosmote says network joins top ten mobile broadband performers

14 May 2010

Greece’s largest mobile operator by subscribers Cosmote, owned by OTE, says it is the first company in Greece and ‘among the first ten networks in the world’ to record mobile broadband downlink data speeds up to 42.2Mbps ‘during tests under real network conditions.’ The speeds were achieved by implementing Dual Carrier HSPA+ technology in live nodes of Cosmote’s 3G network. Less positive news for Cosmote Greece came this week with the revelation that its subscriber base had fallen on a quarterly basis to 8.81 million at end-March 2010, down by 4.4%, or more than 400,000 users, although the figure was up 4.8% year-on-year.
