Bouygues Telecom performs well, but group sales dip 2% in Q1

12 May 2010

French conglomerate Bouygues booked first-quarter revenue of EUR6.4 billion (USD8 billion) down 2% on the same period a year ago, although it reported a strong performance from its telecoms arm, Bougyues Telecom, which continues to be the biggest source of group profit. The group said bad weather conditions at the start of the year impacted hard on its road business, although its media units performed better than expected. Bouygues Telecom posted a 5% year-on-year increase in sales, and said that turnover would have been even higher but for the implementation of regulations on SMS termination rates. The telco added a net 117,000 new fixed lines in 1Q10 on the back of the launch of its first ‘quadruple-play’ offer – broadband, mobile, fixed voice calls and TV.
