MTel picks Ethernet-over-coaxial platform for IPTV

10 May 2010

Hungary’s dominant telecoms group Magyar Telekom (MTel) has reportedly deployed an Ethernet-over-coaxial platform supplied by local vendor BroadBit to enable it to deliver its IPTV service ‘T-Home TV’ direct to subscribers’ homes. Rollout of the new access platform began in March this year, BroadBit is quoted as saying, using a fully passive (i.e. no in-built power supply) configuration, and initial results show that the service is ‘very popular’ amongst users. MTel counted 67,430 IPTV subscribers at the start of this year, up 136.6% year-on-year.
