O2 UK adds fixed line voice services to portfolio

6 May 2010

The UK’s largest mobile network operator by subscribers, O2 UK, is looking to enhance its presence in the fixed line market, to which end it has announced the launch of a fixed line voice service, including line rental. The operator had previously announced in March 2010 that it was delaying the introduction of the service, noting that it wanted to ensure it could provide its customers ‘the best possible service’. The new product, offered under the O2 Home Phone banner, is initially only available to those customers that either already have, or are willing to take, a fixed line broadband service from O2, with two tariffs for the service: for GBP9.50 (USD14.37) per month customers receive free weekend and evening calls to UK landlines with the charge including the cost of line rental, while for GBP12.50 per month UK landline calls are free at any time, while free calls to 20 international destinations are also added. Commenting on the launch, Sally Cowdry, O2 Marketing Director, said: ‘At O2, we’ve been listening to our customers and we’ve realised that many of them want great value, an end to hidden costs and the convenience of being able to pay their home phone and broadband bills together. That is exactly what they will get from us now we have launched Home Phone – truly transparent and flexible pricing plans and convenient consolidated billing.’
