IDA launches 4G spectrum consultation

4 May 2010

Singapore’s national telecoms regulator the Infocomm Development Authority (IDA) has published a consultation document on the proposed spectrum framework for 4G radio frequencies in the 2.3GHz and 2.5GHz bands. The regulator hopes the spectrum will facilitate the deployment of next generation network (NGN) access technologies through fibre and wireless (e.g. WiMAX/LTE). IDA’s current licensing schedule envisages freeing up the 2.3GHz-2.5GHz spectrum band in 2015 at the earliest which, critics note could hamper the timely rollout of LTE services in the city state.
