Thailand’s second largest cellco by subscribers Digital Total Access Communications (DTAC) has announced that its net profit jumped by 64.9% year-on-year to THB2.44 billion (USD75.7 million) for the first three months of 2010, on revenues that rose 6.7% to THB17.6 billion. The Telenor subsidiary heralded the good results as confirmation of an accelerating economic recovery in Thailand, whilst it said company performance was also helped by corporate efficiency measures. Strong take-up of high-end BlackBerry and iPhone handsets was reported, driving sales of handsets and starter kits up to THB587 million in 1Q10, compared to THB162 million a year previously. The GSM operator relaunched the iPhone over its network in March via expanded distribution channels. DTAC added 631,000 subscribers in the three months ended 31 March 2010, boosting its total to 20.3 million, up from 18.9 million a year earlier.
