Optical networking solutions provider Transmode has announced that German regional cable operator Kabel BW has deployed its TM-3000 optical platform to increase the operator’s network capacity. The solution was deployed in 21 cities, enabling Kabel BW to offer over 99% (3.6 million) of all households in the federal state of Baden Wurttemberg services including High Definition (HD) TV, video on demand (VOD), telephony and DOCSIS3.0-enabled broadband internet. ‘Cable providers operate in a very competitive landscape which is shaped in great measure by innovation – both through technology and services,’ noted Bjorn Andersson, vice president of sales at Transmode, adding: ‘Through this new network deployment, Kabel BW has given itself an outstanding position for future growth. We are delighted to be a part of their success story. For us, the KBW network is another example of our own success in the cable segment.’ Kabel BW’s primary network stretches over 72,000km of coaxial cable and 10,000km of optical-fibre, connecting 21 network centres across the whole region and ensures connectivity to every household across the state, even those outside the major cities.
