Virgin Mobile France to break deadlock with mobile TV launch?

23 Apr 2010

French MVNO Virgin Mobile France has been issued with a licence to launch mobile TV services in the country. In a surprise development, BroadbandTV news notes that the French media authority CSA has issued Virgin, and transmitter company TDF, a licence to launch mobile TV – in a move that could end the current impasse surrounding the service’s take-off in France. Until now there has been a deadlock situation in play, with cellcos and broadcasters alike unwilling to commit to the build out of a dedicated DVB-H network. It is understood the CSA will select a multiplex operator before 8 June 2010. In total, 13 private and three public channels are designated to become part of the mobile offer.
