Malaysian data service centre provider FREENET has been awarded a Network Services Provider (NSP) licence by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), Earth Times reports. The new concession is expected to open the possibility of the company offering local and international IP interconnect, transit and switching services, with Billy Lee, FREENET CEO, also noting: ‘With the NSP licence, FREENET will continue to enhance our existing IP network infrastructure to serve our managed network customers who depend on us to connect their application and data information to Asia Pacific, the Middle East and Africa.’ In addition the executive also suggested that the operator would look to transform two of its three Malaysian data centres with a view to connecting all international Tier 1 networks in the Asia Pacific region.
