Vee launches commercial WiMAX services

Vee TIME Corp, which received its operating licence from the National Communications Commission (NCC) at the beginning of March, has launched commercial WiMAX services in Taichung City, Taichung County and Kinmen County. The operator’s network was deployed by Motorola, and claims to be the largest WiMAX network in southern Taiwan. ‘With the new high speed mobile service, Vee has become the leading quadruple play service operator in Taiwan, enabling us to provide not only high quality communication services, but also innovative digital media offerings across different platforms,’ a company spokesperson said.

TeleGeography’s 4G research service reports that Vee received its WiMAX spectrum, along with five other operators, in July 2007. Vee’s concession is valid for six years and covers Southern Taiwan. The company acquired the necessary permits and spectrum with a bid equivalent to 8.69% of annual WiMAX service revenues.
