Chunghwa Telecom posts net income increase but warns of slowing sales growth

13 Apr 2010

Chunghwa Telecom has posted net income of TWD12.1 billion (USD383 million) for the first quarter of 2010, up 12% year-on-year and ahead of the company’s forecast of TWD11.3 billion. Revenue gains from its fibre and mobile internet businesses, coupled with lower costs, helped to drive the increase. The telco also revealed that it is reducing spending on research amid slowing sales growth, and that higher revenue from high speed fixed and mobile internet services may offset lower fees. Taiwan’s government recently ordered operators to cut mobile phone charges by 5% from 1 April and told Chunghwa to lower its fixed line prices by 4.8%.
