Toronto-based Redline Communications Group Inc says it has been awarded a contract to supply wireless broadband equipment as part of the state of Rio de Janeiro’s ‘Digital Rio’ project in Brazil. The broadband wireless infrastructure provider has secured a USD1.8 million order to begin shipping equipment on the plan, which is expected to be completed by the end of the year. Under the deal, Redline will deliver and install its AN-80i broadband wireless solutions for the state-run broadband programme, which is being funded by Rio’s Department of Science and Technology to increase digital inclusion throughout the state. The AN-80i solutions will be used for backhaul connectivity to a Cisco Systems’ Wireless Mesh network that will cover a 190 square kilometre area, with the potential to reach 1.4 million people. The AN-80i platform will also be used to establish high-bandwidth connections between the schools within the ‘Digital Rio’ project area, which spans many parts of the state.
