FET and China Mobile to partner on LTE

8 Apr 2010

Far EasTone (FET) and China Mobile, the world’s largest mobile network operator by subscribers, have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to jointly construct a Time Division Long Term Evolution (TD-LTE) trial network and promote the development of TD-LTE technologies in Taiwan. The Taipei Times notes that the agreement may indicate a softening of the government’s stance towards China Mobile after the operator was given approval to open a subsidiary in Taiwan last month. Last year the Taiwanese government blocked FET’s plan to sell a 12% stake to China Mobile. FET and China Mobile will cooperate in the construction of a TD-LTE trial network in Taipei, designed for handset makers, equipment suppliers, chip makers and other companies to test new products.
