TeliaSonera to expand LTE to 29 cities

7 Apr 2010

TeliaSonera has revealed that it is to expand its LTE network to 29 cities across Sweden and Norway. The company initially launched 4G services in Stockholm and Oslo last December using equipment from Ericsson and Huawei. A new 4G modem will provide support for 2G and 3G networks, unlike the version used in the pilot projects in Stockholm and Oslo, which were solely for LTE. The service, which is mobile broadband data only as handsets will not be available until 2011 at the earliest, will be available in Norway’s four largest cities and Sweden’s 25 biggest cities and holiday areas. The Swedish company says it is yet to fix a launch date for LTE in Finland, and that it is planning to bid for forthcoming licences in Denmark, Estonia and Lithuania.
