Telefonica’s Movistar unit to invest USD284m in 2010

Movistar, the Argentine mobile unit of Spanish telecoms heavyweight Telefonica, has revealed it expects to invest USD284 million in its networks and services this year, with the major portion set aside to expand the company’s 3G network infrastructure. BNamericas quotes Movistar as saying its UMTS infrastructure currently covers 350 municipalities across the country and serves over 600,000 mobile broadband subscribers, out of a total user base of more than 16 million. Movistar Argentina is 100% owned by the Spanish telecoms giant.
