SDE wants investigation into interconnection charges

29 Mar 2010

Brazil’s consumer affairs division (SDE) has called for an investigation into cellcos Vivo, TIM and Claro for anticompetitive interconnection charges, according to BNamericas citing local press reports. The main area of contention relates to the BRL0.42 (USD0.23) charge levied on fixed line operators to connect to the mobile network, whereas it costs BRL0.3 for mobile operators. The recommendation will be forwarded to Brazil’s antitrust regulator Cade, which may levy a fine of up to 30% of the companies’ gross income for 2007.
