Huawei and Optimus conclude 42Mbps tests

25 Mar 2010

Huawei and Optimus, the wholly owned subsidiary of Sonaecom, have announced the successful conclusion of a new HSPA+ Dual Carrier technology test which, together with the HSPA+ technology that has already been implemented on Optimus’ network, allows maximum download speeds of up to 42Mbps. The tests achieved maximum download speeds of 41.4Mbps, very close to the theoretical limit of the technology. Dual Carrier technology is based on the principle of using two carrier waves, both on the transmitter and the receiver, which permits the increase of the transmission rate to double the current maximum value (21Mbps).

As of January 2010 Huawei claimed to have supplied and installed 36 HSPA+ networks, of which 20 were in commercial operation.
