24 Mar 2010

China Mobile and China Broadcast Corp (CBC) – a subsidiary of broadcasting ministry SARFT – have jointly launched commercial mobile TV services using the domestically-developed China Multimedia Mobile Broadcasting (CMMB) standard, reports Telecomasia quoting newspaper the 21st Century Business Herald. The CMMB network covers 303 cities across China, offering access to six channels at an initial price of CNY6 (USD0.88) per month. Some 845,000 CMMB-capable handsets have already been sold, and the partners have set a target of five million subscribers in the first year. China Mobile and SARFT began working together on mobile TV during the 2008 Olympics and signed an agreement a year ago to jointly develop CMMB-based services.
