Smart Mobile deploys International Gateway solution

23 Mar 2010

Carrier-class voice-over-IP (VoIP) and convergence solutions provider VocalTec Communications has announced that Cambodian wireless operator Smart Mobile has deployed its Class-4 International Gateway solution to enable seamless VoIP termination and network economies. The solution will allow Smart Mobile to adapt call routes in response to business requirements, enabling the cellco to optimise its cost structure through the implementation of flexible business models. ‘We required a field-proven VoIP solution that would enable us to expand our international services in a cost-effective manner, without compromising quality of service,’ noted Thomas Hundt, CEO at Smart Mobile, adding, ‘VocalTec’s solution satisfies all of our technical requirements and allows us to provide our customers with the highest levels of excellence in all areas of service provisioning. The ability to support both packet and legacy circuit traffic eliminates the need for additional investment in legacy infrastructures and allows us to maintain a competitive service in today’s ever-changing business environment.’ According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, Smart Mobile became Cambodia’s eighth mobile operator when it launched commercial GSM services in March 2009. It is owned by Latelz, a subsidiary of Cypriot-registered and Russian-owned Timeturns Holdings.
