Sibirtelecom reports CDMA2000 progress

Russian regional operator Sibirtelecom has reached 200,000 subscribers on its ‘Wellcom’ CDMA2000 1x 450MHz mobile network, reports DMEurope. The operator has 374 CDMA2000 base stations operational in its eastern Russian regions, with plans to roll out 130 new base stations and raise the user base to 280,000 by the end of 2010. It also provides mobile internet using 1xEV-DO technology offering up to 3.1Mbps download. TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database says that the fixed line and mobile operator, part of the Svyazinvest group, had a total of around 5.45 million GSM/CDMA IS 95A/CDMA2000 wireless customers at the end of December 2009, up from 4.9 million a year earlier, including its Baykalwestcom and Yeniseytelecom units. At the same date it had around 4.5 million wireline voice subscribers.
