Wind: 2009 net profit down 20%

Italian telco Wind has posted a 20% year-on-year decline in net profit for the full year 2009, on the back of a 107% rise in income tax. The company posted net profit of EUR308 million (USD423.9 million) for the twelve months ended 31 December 2009, down from EUR385 million in 2008. The firm’s other results were comparatively positive as sales grew by 4.7% year-on-year, up to EUR5.72 billion in 2009, while earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) and earnings before interest and tax (EBIT) climbed by 2.7% and 18.3% respectively, up to EUR2.06 billion and EUR1.14 billion. The company continued to add to its customer base over the course of 2009, ending the year with 18.4 million mobile subscribers, up from 16.9 million a year earlier. In the fixed line sector, Wind ended the year with 2.8 million fixed line voice customers and 1.64 million broadband subscribers, up from 2.62 million and 1.36 million in 2008 respectively.
