ATT extends deadline for mobile registration

18 Mar 2010

Bolivia’s telecoms ministry, La Autoridad de Telecomunicaciones y Transportes (ATT), has announced that it is to extend the deadline for mobile voice subscribers to register their numbers to 30 May 2010. The regulator said that its reason for pushing back the cut-off date was to enable those users in rural regions to register, while network operators have been advised to take proactive action to obtain the necessary details from subscribers in such areas. As of 14 March 2010 approximately 65% of Bolivia’s mobile users had registered their details. The government has claimed that by requiring all mobile users to provide their information it will help cut down the use of wireless technology in criminal activities.
