British mobile network operator Orange UK has announced that it has signed mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) agreements with three new partners. The cellco, a subsidiary of France Telecom, revealed that the deals with Unicom, Catalyst and Axis Telecom had been secured on the Orange Partner Platform via Transatel, Orange’s mobile virtual network aggregator (MVNA). Fixed line provider Unicom is expected to initially target its 80,000 existing customers with its new wireless services, Catalyst is expected to provide mobile voice offerings through partners targeting specific demographics including students, ethnic minorities and SMEs, while Axis Telecom will use the deal to offer mobile voice to its 14,000 residential and business customers; all three MVNOs are expected to launch commercially by the mid-2010. Commenting on the development, Marc Overton, Vice President of Wholesale, Business Development & Partnerships at Orange UK, said: ‘Orange has very ambitious plans to become the network partner of choice for new and existing MVNOs. This latest news shows that we are well on our way to achieving this and our ambition to have twenty new MVNOs on the Orange network by the end of the year. It clearly demonstrates that there are untapped opportunities for telecoms services across business and consumer sectors. Through our partnership with Transatel, we are making it even easier for communities and companies of all sizes to enter the exciting mobile market’.
