Telia says LTE users to get 80Mbps practical speeds

12 Mar 2010

Sweden’s TeliaSonera (Telia) has announced that its Long Term Evolution (LTE) mobile broadband network in central Stockholm will soon be upgraded to maximum theoretical download speeds of 100Mbps, with practical peak speeds for users of ‘up to 80Mbps’, although these will vary. According to the company’s press release, the 4G network, launched last December, is gradually being expanded to other areas, some of which will be covered by the 80Mbps practical peak speeds ‘in the spring’. Telia’s LTE coverage currently reaches central Stockholm as well as Kista Science City, the upmarket Hammarby Sjostad neighbourhood and the Alvsjo area (including transport hub and Stockholm International Fairs complex). It plans to begin rolling out 4G infrastructure in 25 locations this year; during the third quarter launches are expected in Lund, Vasteras, Malmo, Gothenburg, Uppsala and Linkoping.
