Qtel and Tata confirm TGN Gulf partnership

8 Mar 2010

Qatar Telecom (Qtel) and India’s Tata Communications yesterday officially confirmed their partnership for the construction of the Tata Global Network (TGN) Gulf Project, which will see Qtel establish a landing station for the regional undersea network. The TGN Gulf project is designed to connect the Gulf region directly to the world’s major business hubs and city centres, improving connectivity and providing the foundations for next generation communications technology. Other regional partners in this project are the Bahrain Internet Exchange consortium, Nawras of Oman, Mobily of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Etisalat of the United Arab Emirates. Development of the cable project, which will be completed in 2011, will also support the deployment of an extended portfolio of advanced telecommunications services such as Global Ethernet, MPLS-based VPN and Global Telepresence.
