ATN reports 2009 results

Atlantic Tele-Network (ATN) has reported a 7% increase in turnover for the full year ended 31 December 2009 to USD59.5 million. Wireless revenue increased 20% to USD35.9 million, while net income, excluding acquisition related charges, was USD8 million, up 11% from 2008. Its US rural wireless business increased revenue by 35%, to USD25.4 million from USD18.8 million, benefiting from the ongoing investment in new base stations and the growth in recurring voice and data traffic. It ended the fourth quarter with a total of 580 base stations, up from 473 base stations at the end of 2008. Wireless revenue in Guyana increased 16% to USD5.9 million thanks in part to 41,000 net new subscribers, taking its total to 289,000 subscribers.

ATN’s principal subsidiaries include Commnet Wireless, which provides voice and data wireless roaming services for US and international carriers in rural areas throughout the United States; Guyana Telephone & Telegraph Company, which is the national telephone service provider for all local, long-distance and international services in Guyana; and Bermudan cellco Bermuda Digital Communications (Cellular One).
