MVS confirms it will consider legal options after WiMAX licence not renewed

1 Mar 2010

Hot on the heels of the revelation that Mexico’s Secretario de Comunicaciones y Transportes (SCT) will not renew the WiMAX licence of alternative internet provider MVS Comunicaciones, the operator has confirmed it will take legal action against the ruling. According to BNamericas, MVS noted: ‘In knowledge of its rights, MVS will take the corresponding legal steps at its disposal.’ However, the operator has yet to announce detailed plans of any legal challenge to the development.

As reported by CommsUpdate earlier this month, the SCT confirmed earlier rumours that it was not planning to renew the concession, reiterating its earlier claims that MVS had failed to make full use of the spectrum it had been allocated. For its part, MVS countered the claims by arguing that the government’s continued delays in deciding whether to renew the licence had hindered it from launching services.
