Velton to roll out IPTV with Alca-Lu

26 Feb 2010

Alcatel-Lucent has announced that Velton Telecom, which provides fixed communication services in 14 cities across central, eastern and western parts of Ukraine, is launching a field trial of IPTV services to business and residential subscribers in Kharkov and Poltava, using the French-US vendor as network and IT systems integrator and project manager. The commercial launch of the IPTV service, which will use the Microsoft Mediaroom software platform, is expected in the second half of 2010. The field trial will utilise Velton’s existing IP/MPLS and GPON network, also deployed by Alca-Lu. Anatoly Protsyuk, chairman of Velton Telecom, said: ‘The IP/MPLS and broadband access capabilities from Alcatel-Lucent’s solution enable us to stay in line with the service transformation processes that we see as vital in our market, as we now introduce IPTV services. Subscribers require simple and easy access to advanced, content-rich communication services and operators need flexible and reliable platforms to respond to this demand.’
