Brazil’s pay-TV market reports 150k net additions in January

Brazilian regulator Anatel has revealed that the country’s pay-TV service providers collectively added a net 150,000 new users in January for a total of 7.62 million, up from 7.47 million at the year-end. According to the industry watchdog, pay-TV services currently reach 25 million people in Brazil.

The most popular access platform at the end of January was cable TV which accounted for 57.9% of all pay-TV accesses (unchanged month-on-month), followed by satellite direct-to-home (DTH) technology with 37.3% (37.4% previously) and multichannel multipoint distribution service (MMDS) technology with 4.8% (4.7%). The principal operators in the domestic pay-TV market in Brazil are Net Servicos, Sky, TVA/Telefonica, Oi TV and Embratel.
