Moldova’s incumbent telco Moldtelecom has announced the launch of its IPTV service, offering 30 TV channels, video on demand (VoD) and other interactive services. Activation is free for Moldtelecom customers, with nothing to pay until April on signing a two-year contract for the IPTV service. The operator has unveiled a range of tariff plans, including three double-play packages – Duo Start, Duo Optim and Duo Plus – bundling the TV service with a broadband internet connection. The three packages offer maximum down/upload broadband speeds of 3Mbps, 7Mbps and 25Mbps over the company’s fibre network, while transmission rates of 3Mbps (download)/1Mbps (upload), 6Mbps/1Mbps and 16Mbps/1Mbps are available over its ADSL network. Monthly tariffs for the double-play packages range between MDL170 (USD13) and MDL250, while IPTV on its own is priced at MLD75 for the premium option, plus a MDL50 fee for the activation of a mediabox. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, Moldtelecom had a total of 119,274 broadband subscribers at 30 September 2009, representing a market share of over 72%.
