Netia reported fourth quarter net income of PLN99.1 million (USD33.96 million), compared with a PLN10.2 million loss a year earlier. Profit in the three months ended 31 December 2009 rose after the company recognised PLN88.3 million of deferred tax in the quarter. Fourth quarter sales rose 4.6% to PLN386.2 million and EBIT increased to PLN15.2 million compared with a loss of PLN14.7 million, as the company’s broadband internet customer base jumped during the period. At the end of 2009 Netia boasted 559,317 broadband customers, up 35% year-on-year. Of the total 200,060 were connected to its xDSL or ‘Fast Ethernet’ network, 17,079 to its WiMAX network, 293,782 via bitstream access, 48,117 via LLU and 279 by other technologies. Netia estimated its market share of the Polish fixed broadband market at 10% at the end of 2009.
