7Netlayers launches WiMAX services in Kurdistan

Iraqi telecoms operator 7Netlayers Telecom has launched a mobile wireless broadband network in Kurdistan, WiMax.com reports. The USD10 million project utilises Chinese equipment vendor Huawei Technology’s complete WiMAX solution to offer wireless broadband services to students, SMEs and large corporations at download speeds of up to 18Mbps. 7Netlayers was established in 2008 by a group of Iraqi/Kurdish and Lebanese investors with the aim of delivering advanced technology and interconnectivity solutions to the corporate industry and to address the growing needs of consumers in the region. The company received its licence in 2007 and launched commercial services in January 2010 using the WiMAX 208.16e standard.
