GTL to have 50,000 towers in operation by 2013

Indian tower company GTL Infrastructure has revealed plans to boost the number of cell sites it has in operation to 50,000 within the next three years. According to the Economic Times, GTL expects to have 33,000 base stations by mid-2010, having inked a deal with mobile network operator Aircel last month which will see it acquire 17,500 towers from the cellco. GTL senior vice president Vikas Arora also said that his company expects the tenancy ratio on its towers to increase to 2.3 by 2013, while the number of towers in urban regions will rise from 1,350 to 9,400 with a view to catering to new 2G and 3G operators.
